Happy New Year! Hello my fellow book lovers! Welcome to the first edition of my writing Adventures. I’m so excited to have you along as I share my highs and lows and everything in between.
I am deep into writing Kingdom of Shadows a dark retelling of Peter Pan. This book will have its highs its lows and will give you a serious kick in the feels. This story has been bouncing around in my head for a while.
This book I went back to my traditions of playing the chapter out in my head like watching a 4k movie. I stop looking at word count and focus more on writing until the story is done.
One of the hardest things of this project has been trying to keep original characters but also giving the story my own breath. In this version of Peter Pan you will learn all is not faith trust and pixie dust.
Here is a little sneak peek from Kingdom of Shadows.
Dr. Anderson stood at his desk, a glass of brandy swirling lazily in his hand, the amber liquid catching the dim light of his office lamp. A sinister smile curled his lips as he muttered, “People trust me with their children’s lives. They really shouldn’t.” His gaze drifted toward the shadowed corner of the room, where a faint flicker from the fireplace cast dancing shapes on the wall. He was lost in thought until a sharp knock at the door jolted him back to reality.
“Dr. Anderson,” a woman’s voice called softly through the heavy oak door.
His expression twisted with irritation. “Can a man not get a moment’s peace in this place?” he barked, stalking to the door. Fire blazed in his eyes as he threw it open. “Who dares knock on my office door at this hour?” His tone was as cold and hard as steel.
The young woman on the other side flinched slightly but stood her ground, her voice trembling. “Forgive me, sir, but it’s one of the children.”
Writing is a journey, and sometimes it feels like a roller coaster. Some days, I’m on top of the world, and others, I’m questioning everything. But one thing I’ve learned is that perseverance is key—and those 'low' days often lead to the breakthroughs that keep me going.
I’d love to hear from you! What part of the writing process do you find most challenging? Or, if you’re an aspiring writer, what tips would you want to hear about next time?
Thanks so much for reading! I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you. Stay tuned for the next issue, where I’ll dive deeper into worldbuilding and how I keep track of all my plot threads!
